The secret sauce to help you stay on-track with your health goals
I was listening to an episode of my favorite podcast today that talked about resilience.
The dictionary definition of "resilience" is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
If you have the desire to gain more energy, lose welight or build muscle, you have to be prepared for the challenges that will arise and stay the course.
When I started an elimination diet several years ago, the first day I experienced an intense headache and craved every food I was avoiding. The withdrawals seemed unbearable and I questioned my decision to start the program in the first place.
I told myself that if the withdrawals continued after taking a nap, then I would stop the program. I laid in bed and closed my eyes.
About an hour later I woke up and—though "hangry"—I felt much better. I pulled through, and on the third day I felt like a different person; I was high on physical energy and mental clarity.
In that same podcast they also talked about what I consider the "secret sauce" behind the ability to recover quickly from difficulties:
A compelling reason—aka your big WHY.
Here are some of the WHY's I came up with for myself:
➤ 1. When I chose to keep going on that first day of withdrawal hell, I remembered wanting to be DONE with days of falling half-asleep behind the wheel, or suffering another after-lunch energy crash at the office.
➤ 2. As I go about my day today without getting paid "by the hour,* I remember that I left my 9-5 so that I could pursue my passion in health, and help others heal their gut—like I healed mine.
➤ 3. When I made the biggest decision of my life by reinventing myself and living in my truth. I did this because I wanted to evolve to become the best version of myself and inspire others to do the same.
The beautiful thing about having a big WHY is that yours can be small and simple. The key is to have one (or more) pinned to the forefront of your mind as you encounter challenges along the journey.
