Can’t we all just get along…on food?

I see a lot of content in the wellness industry that vilify food.

I understand the attention-grabbing power of polarizing content. I may have even used one or two myself in the past.

What can often happen, in my opinion, is that food-vilifying content can not only drive people into confusion, but also into fear.

Which can lead them to inaction when it comes to being detectives of their own health.

I love food and all types of it:

• those you pick from trees or pull from the ground

• deep fried foods

• grilled meat

• chocolate chip cookies

• steamed seafood

• Greek food

• seasoned chips

• buffalo wings

• Italian food (hungry yet?)

Food is a very nuanced subject that covers everything from its effects based on personal medical conditions to environmental issues.

This post isn't about any of that. I share these thoughts because as a big foodie, I also understand that what I put in my body has physical and mental ramifications.

The goal is never to attach judgment to food and how I use it to nourish me. It's about staying open, curious and honest about what role I want food to play in my life and being okay with it.

If any of the above strikes a cord, I offer you the following questions to ask yourself (with love and compassion):

Instead of feeling confused or overwhelmed with all the info out there, can I start with what I know to be true about how certain foods affect me?

What are my reasons for using food for sustenance versus something else, and am I okay with them?

Do I have limiting beliefs (learned or inherited) about food and are they worth exploring?

Is there a gap between where I am with food and where I want I be instead? If so, what can I do to bridge that gap?
