You are outnumbered

You are more bacteria than human

Did you know that YOU ARE MORE BACTERIA THAN HUMAN? Studies show that around 100 trillion to 30 trillion is the ratio of bacterial cells to human cells, respectively.

Just as (or even more) fascinating is that we have 20,000 human genes vs. 2-20 million microbial genes!

Simply put, we are all more similar as humans on a cellular level and truly unique on a bacterial level because of each person’s gut microbiome. Our GM houses the majority of the bacteria in our body and can weigh up to five pounds.

In the last decade, more and more studies by The Human Microbiome Project have revealed the numerous connections between our gut and our physical and mental well-being. The fact that these gut microbes living in our GI tract may be contributing to how we think or how we process certain foods that may lead to weight gain or diabetes is truly fascinating.

You may be thinking, SO WHAT?

Well, if we can understand this phenomenon that “we are not alone” in our bodies, that we are literally eating for trillions, and that these guys have more say in how we feel than we do, then it might be easier to navigate our path to vitality.

For example, let’s use the analogy of having a pet. You and your pet have a symbiotic relationship. You take care of them and they take care of you (in the form of companionship and love). It’s a simple dynamic and the mutual benefits can be life-changing.

So think of your GM as your gut friends who require just as much love and care as your pet. When you love on your gut friends, they will surely return it by way of healthy bowel movements, maintaining your ideal weight, having abundant energy and mental clarity, and just feeling overall amazing!
