Sometimes, mindset just needs to take a back seat

A few months ago, my brain was underperforming because my gut was over-performing.

I had been relishing in full "grubbery"—indulging in whatever food my heart desired. When I felt lazy to cook, a few finger taps on the Grubhub, DoorDash or Postmates apps delivered my cravings on a plastic platter.

Days passed and I found myself feeling drawn to the couch for a quick nap one too many times. As a result, reading and writing became a challenge because I couldn't focus. Despite managing my thoughts and "pushing through," I still had difficulty pushing through. Lethargy was once again the bane of my existence.

Netflix and chips were the only escape, which also perpetuated my state. I started to realize the all-too-familiar pattern that I was in. Ensuring I had greens on every plate or reducing the amount of grains I was consuming wasn't cutting it. That's when I decided to do what has always worked for me in the past: a three-day cleanse. Once I got through the withdrawal humps, I felt energized and the brain fog lifted.

Mind management is one of the core pillars I help clients with on their personal path to vitality.

Our thoughts create the emotions that influence our actions. One hundred percent.

When your gut is so jacked up, however, all the mind work in the world can feel like an uphill battle.

In my story above, I needed to address my gut needs before I could get on the mindset game.

It can be argued that being aware of and deciding to tend to your gut's needs IS part of mindset, yes. What tends to happen, though, is sustaining the practice of mind management becomes a challenge when your gut is compromised.

Your head brain and your gut brain are connected. When one or the other isn't functioning to its full capacity, it's important to get curious. Awareness is always the first step. And sometimes, you just need to get your gut right before your brain can follow.

Do you ever find your brain underperforming whenever your gut is over-performing?

Or find your gut underperforming whenever your brain is over-performing (with unnecessary thoughts)?
